What is The Community Emergency Response Team?
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers on disaster preparedness for the specific hazards that may affect their area. It trains them in essential disaster response skills, including fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT provides a standardized, nationwide approach to volunteer training, which professional responders can rely on during emergencies, allowing them to focus on more complex tasks. Through CERT, communities enhance their ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.
